1. – Describe where you got married (destination and name of the location
or resort Explain why you chose that locale.

A. My husband and I were married at Villa del Arco in Cabo San Lucas. We chose Villa del Arco because we have a timeshare there and love the view of the arch from the beach.

2.– What was your vision for your wedding?

A. My vision for my wedding centered around the beach with starfish, but I wanted  it to feel like we were in Mexico. I love sugar skulls, so we mixed some of those in too.

3.–Describe the activities you and your guests enjoyed at your wedding destination

A. While in Cabo, we spent a lot of time relaxing around the pool and enjoying each other’s company at many of the amazing restaurants around town.

4.– Where did you hold your wedding (gazebo, beach, historic fort, etc.)?

A. Our wedding was on the beach under a bamboo huppah. I wanted my toes in the sand.

5.– What time was your wedding (either a specific time or general time of day like sunset)?

A. Our wedding was just before sunset for a couple of reasons. First, my husband proposed at sunrise on 12/12/12, so we thought sunset on 12/13/13 would be perfect.  Second, the light is amazing around sunset.

6.– Describe what happened at your ceremony

A. I cried a lot during my ceremony, but one of my favorite moments was when the minister asked who supports this marriage and everyone screamed, “We do.” I didn’t know it at the time, but my dad was giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed. The person holding the camera managed to snap a screenshot of it.

7.– What flowers did you carry?

A. I have no idea what kind of flowers I carried. I know they were pink, coral and white. I thought they were beautiful.

8.– Tell about any ethnic traditions or customs from your destination that you included in your event.

A. Like I said earlier, I wanted to recognize that we were in Mexico. All of the food at my cocktail hour and reception was traditional Mexican. We also used sugar skulls, which I know are not traditional wedding decorations, for place cards.

9.– Describe the location and decor of your reception

A. Our reception was at El Faro just off the beach at Villa del Arco. The restaurant faces the water, so we could hear the ocean once the sun set. The decor matched the ceremony location with teal ribbons on the chairs, teal tablecloths and traditional Mexican table runners. I loved all the bright colors.

10.– What food was served at the reception?

A. We ate tortilla soup, made our own tacos from the taco bar, enjoyed my favourite chips and guacamole and drank hibiscus margaritas. Guests said they loved the cocktail hour treats, but I didn’t get a chance to try any of them.

11.– Describe the look and flavor of your cake, plus any other desserts  that were served.

A. Instead of traditional wedding cake, which I usually don’t like, we served ice cream. Guests could put their own toppings on either chocolate, vanilla or pioncillo ice cream. We also had churros and tiny tres leches cakes. I had M&Ms made with our wedding date too.

12.– What else happened at your reception? Toasts? Dancing? Any funny or meaningful stories?

A. I remember standing in front of our guests at the reception thanking them for traveling all the way to Cabo for our wedding. I remember crying a lot. I had a knot in my stomach, so I didn’t eat or drink too much. I had a couple of tequila shots. My wedding party took so many tequila shots, the bar ran out of lime wedges. We had a couple of wedding crashers from the restaurant next door that danced with us.

13.– Describe any wedding-related events that followed the wedding and reception.

A. After the wedding, everyone met at “The Office” in the morning for breakfast.

14.– What did you love about your destination that was specific only to that place?

A. I loved the view of the ocean from both of the rooms we stayed in at Villa del Arco. I watched a lot of sunrises, which is one of my favorite things to do on vacation. I kept an eye out for whales, but didn’t see any on this trip. I also really loved all my trips to the spa. If you haven’t been to the Desert Spa, you need to book an appointment. The plunge pools are great.

15.– What was the best idea you had in planning your destination wedding?

A. The best idea I had while planning a destination wedding was hiring a wedding coordinator. I wish I would have done it at the beginning of the process.

16.– Best advice to future brides and grooms of destination weddings:

A. My best advice is to hire a wedding coordinator in the city where you are getting married and talk to them often.

17.– Best memory of the wedding:

A. My best memory of the wedding is standing at the alter looking at my husband just before the minister said he could kiss me. I just couldn’t believe we were married. I loved that moment. I really hope there are some great pictures of his face.

18.– Where did you and your guests stay? Did you find a lot of resorts and hotels offered good group rates?

A. My guests and I stayed at Villa del Arco and Villa del Palmar. Yes, the group rates were good.

19.– Did you use a wedding planner? If yes, how did he or she contribute to the event? If no, how did you organize a wedding that was so far from your hometown?

A. I used a wedding coordinator from Amy Abbott Events. I could not have pulled this off without Lynette. She swooped in when I thought my wedding was falling apart and put everything back together. I really appreciate what she and her staff did for me. The decoration was beautiful. Everything ran smoothly and I didn’t have to worry about a thing.

20.– In retrospect, is there anything you would have done differently in the planning?

A. I would have hired an outside wedding coordinator from the beginning.

21.-Floral Design:

A. Coca at Cabo Dream Weddings took care of the flowers.

22.-Officiant:

A. Digeo Vidal officiated.

23.-Bakery/Dessert Preparation

A. The chef at “El Faro” prepared the desserts.

24.-Lighting: PSAV® Presentation Services

24. Coca at Cabo Dream Weddings and Lynette Dow from Amy Abbott Events designed the ceremony and reception spaces. They worked together on the candles and other lights.
